Rheumatology

Rheumatology is the medical specialty specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the joints and connective tissue in the body. Rheumatic diseases cause musculoskeletal pain, stiffness and swelling that can slow the patient down and impair their quality of life.
Who is the rheumatology clinic for?
The Rheumatology Clinic addresses patients of all ages who suffer from chronic musculoskeletal pain and stiffness of both the joints and the spine. These patients present severe difficulty in movement and performing daily activities.

These diseases include:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Arthritis that occurs after infections (reactive)
  • Autoimmune Diseases
Another large group of diseases in which the rheumatologist specializes are autoimmune diseases, which result from disorders in the immune system and present a multitude of specific and non-specific symptoms that concern both the musculoskeletal and other systems of the body (e.g. skin, mucous membranes, lungs, kidneys, heart, etc.).

Diseases of this type are:

  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
  • Scleroderma
  • Sjogren’s Syndrome
  • Polymyositis
  • Hereditary transmitted diseases

Inherited diseases that can manifest from childhood to adulthood, such as Familial Mediterranean Fever and syndromes related to cryopyrin, also require the care of a rheumatologist.

We use the most modern and thorough methods for the treatment of various diseases that fall under the specialty of rheumatology. Our experienced staff has the necessary skills and training to treat common and complex rheumatic diseases, with the aim of improving the patient’s functionality and maintaining their quality of life.
