The Artificial Kidney Unit of St Luke’s Hospital
The Artificial Kidney Unit of St Luke’s Hospital began its operation in July 2009, with the aim of providing high-level renal function replacement therapy to patients with end-stage chronic renal failure. Within this context, in a modern and bright space, the Clinic’s Artificial Kidney Unit offers comprehensive health services to patients, covering any additional medical problem that may arise.
The Artificial Kidney Unit has been staffed by excellent human resources, distinguished for their excellent scientific training and humane approach to the patient. At the same time, the modern logistical infrastructure highlights a modern, organized, autonomous Chronic Hemodialysis Center.
Patients are constantly under the close supervision of the nursing and medical staff, who have been selected with strict criteria for their high level of education and their indisputable experience in the field. Our doctors are present at every hemodialysis, while they remain available to patients around the clock, both to provide any advice and to deal with any emergency.
Finally, the patients are treated in a peaceful environment, in complete harmony with the natural beauty of the wider area, which contributes significantly to the patient’s good mental mood.

At the same time, the modern logistical infrastructure highlights a modern, organized and autonomous Chronic Hemodialysis Center, with the sole aim of holistic care for patients with nephrological problems.

The Artificial Kidney Unit has been staffed by excellent human resources, distinguished for their excellent scientific training and humane approach to the patient. The technical and other personnel, with constant supervision, ensure the excellent and trouble-free operation of the unit.
Unit and modern equipment
The equipment of the Unit consists of the latest technology Artificial Kidney machines, which allow the realization of various types of cleansing. The Unit consists of 15 modern hemodialysis machines, which have full operational capability to apply all hemodialysis methods (classic, hemofiltration and on-line hemodialysis, single needle, etc.), according to the specific needs of the patients.
More specifically, we have the following:
• State-of-the-art hemodialysis machines from the Japanese company Nikkiso
• Low & high flux hemodialysis filters, premium quality membranes that cover the entire spectrum of quality hemodialysis
• Dialysis solutions with bicarbonate
• Double water treatment system with full operational autonomy
The Unit’s state-of-the-art machines, combined with strict infection control programs and the international hemodialysis therapeutic protocols applied, guarantee maximum patient safety. At the same time, they have the possibility of real-time monitoring of the critical factors of hemodialysis (online monitoring), but also its personalization.
Comfortable and pleasant stay
The Unit has been designed in such a way as to ensure the comfort and pleasant stay of the patients. Each patient has an individual television set, radio and telephone line, while free wifi, a light meal and parking are provided to patients. All areas of the Unit are air-conditioned, while particular emphasis is placed on cleanliness and hygiene.
Hygiene rules of the Unit
Special care is taken to ensure absolute hygiene conditions, with the aim of absolute safety in the treatment of patients:
• Specially separated ward for HIV-positive and other patients who need isolation
• Continuous cleaning and disinfection of all areas of the unit
• Sterilization of machines after each shift
• Daily control of the water treatment system with online monitoring and regular network disinfection

Emergency call system
In addition, the Clinic applies the emergency call system, where a specialized medical and nursing team, consisting of a cardiologist, an anesthesiologist and an ICU nurse, is informed and intervenes immediately in case of a cardiorespiratory problem.
EN 15224:2016 quality management system
The Artificial Kidney Unit is certified by the internationally prestigious Certification Organization TUV AUSTRIA and implements a quality management system EN 15224:2016, which guarantees the maintenance of a consistently high level of all our internal operations and the services provided.
The Unit has cooperation with the National Organization for Health Care Services Provision (EOPYY) and all insurance organizations to cover the treatments provided.
